European Music Day on Naxos (on 20 and 21 June 2015)
The European Music Day is a remarkable musical institution that began in 1982 and in 2015 is taking place in 22 European countries. In Greece it is taking place in over 30 cities in 2015. This year's events are dedicated to Melina Mercouri and also to Europe of Culture (which was envisioned by Melina Mercouri). Naxos celebrations started in 2011 and with a better form are being continued since 2012 in the picturesque village of Halki.
On 20 and 21 June 201524 artistsare performing in the European Music Day festival in Halki of Naxos, organized there by the Cultural Association of Tragaia Naxos and Yannis Karpondinis (local coordinator of the European Festival of Music on Naxos).
The European Music Day is associated with the Sun as god bringing the light and so also with the day of June 21, the longest day of the year. For this reason on June 21 2015 during the events in the Halki Naxos European Music Day a special workshop called "Heliographie" is taking place and a series of photos of sun are being displayed (which were taken by a special and pioneering photographic method).
